What is it?
It’s a bit like Dropbox, combining online backup and sync between different computers on different platforms.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the amount of online storage you want. There’s a free 2GB account, and the plans for individuals range from $49.99 (30GB) to $249.99 (250GB).
Why did I buy it?
I like the promise of Dropbox, but I dislike how it mandates that you put everything in one folder, unless you want to muck about with symlinks. SugarSync asks you to pick which folders from your own existing folder hierarchy that you want to sync; it’s even smart enough automatically to offer to map a Mac’s Documents folder to a PC’s My Documents folder and so on. It has a handy web interface that I use to push things between my personal Mac and my locked-down corporate Mac, and a free iPhone client. And it’s fast to sync too.
Where can you get it?
You can sign up for the free 2GB trial account here, and get a free 250MB of storage as a bonus. If you then opt for a paid plan, we both get an extra 5GB of storage free.
